A Brutally Difficult Hammer Climbing Game That’s Weirdly Addictive

Climb It Up is a physics-based climbing game where the character uses only one tool: a hammer. Players must swing, hook, and push their way across strange terrain—rocks, walls, hanging platforms, you name it. According to my own experience (and a couple of frustrated friends), the challenge ramps up faster than expected.

The gameplay feels quite similar to Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy, though Climb It Up has brighter visuals and a slightly more playful atmosphere. Still tough. Very tough.

Gameplay—Simple in Theory, Brutal in Practice

In Climb It Up, the main goal is straightforward: climb as high as possible.

Players use the hammer to latch onto objects—rocks, ledges, or random structures—and pull themselves upward step by step.

One small mistake can send your character sliding down the mountain. Sometimes far down. Sometimes players lose ten minutes of progress in one unlucky swing.

And oddly enough, that’s what keeps people coming back.

How to Play

Main Objective

Your objectives are simple:

  • Reach the highest point you can
  • There is no time limit
  • If you fall, you may need to climb back up from a lower position—or even from the start

That’s it. Just you, the hammer, and a mountain that refuses to cooperate.

Controls

  • Use the mouse to drag and swing the hammer to grab onto nearby surfaces.
  • On mobile devices, touch and drag your finger to control the movement.

Tips for New Players

1. Move Slowly and Carefully

Rushing almost always leads to mistakes. Small, controlled hammer swings are much safer.

Think patience over speed.

2. Look for Strong Anchor Points

Try to hook the hammer onto stable surfaces or corners before pulling yourself up.

If the surface looks unstable… it probably is.

3. Learn to Control Momentum

Understanding how the character swings and shifts weight makes a huge difference.

Once you get the rhythm, climbing becomes smoother.

4. Stay Calm

This game tests patience more than reflexes sometimes. Losing your temper usually leads to sloppy movements—and another long fall.
